Carlos Alcaraz has become the champion of the Wimbledon tournament, in a final against the great Novak Djokovic, whom he defeated in 3 sets to win his fourth grand slam.
Carlos Alcaraz, at 21 years old, continues to make history, repeating his title on the grass of Wimbledon.
Only 8 players had achieved this feat in the Open Era. From Rod Laver, John Newcombe, and Björn Borg, through John McEnroe, Boris Becker, and Pete Sampras, to Roger Federer. The last of them was Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic, barely challenged by his rivals on the way to the final, knew he would have to put in more effort if he wanted to regain the title the Spaniard took from him in the previous edition.
Alcaraz tested Djokovic’s mobility with very technical movements.
With a very good serve, he won the first set with hardly any flaws and with two breaks of serve.
The final was an onslaught by Alcaraz.
Novak Djokovic surrendered to the evidence and acknowledged Carlos Alcaraz’s superiority on the court.
“I felt inferior, he was better than me in every shot. There is nothing to reproach myself for. I had never seen him serve like this or so strongly. He must have trained a lot on Saturday,” were the Serbian’s statements.
“It is a huge honor for me to be part of those players who have conquered Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year. They are enormous champions. I do not consider myself a champion yet, not like them, but I will keep building my path. It is a huge honor,” declared Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz has been able to challenge history on all levels. Not only has he established himself as one of the greatest young talents of all time, but he has also broken his country’s tradition, making grass the surface that has provided him with the most success so far.
Wimbledon is already the stage where he has won the most Grand Slam titles and where he has achieved the most victories in a tournament of this category—along with Roland Garros—with 18. His record on the surface rises to an 88.8% success rate with 24 wins in 27 matches played.
